Are Malkauns and HindOlam the same?

Hi guys, Malkauns and Hindolam are both derivatives of the 20th naTaBhairavi meLa and share the same scale. So, initially I was under the impression that they are a Hindustani-Carnatic equivalent pair. But they are listed as 2 different raagams. Is it because of some difference in the prayogams?
