Hello all: I am new to this web site; grew up with carnatic music (as a child in america with immigrant parents). However, I am ashamed to admit that I never learned music formally nor do I have an "ear" (i.e. tone deaf?) for identifying ragas (was a game in our household!); so as an "oldster", would like aids to help me rectify this problem! wondering if there is an app similar to the free app "shazam" wherein by pressing a button on your phone, within seconds the app identifies the song? so it could recognize the raga first, and ideally the varnam and any other details. This would be a nice assistive tool to "educate" and add another layer to the pure enjoyment of this heavenly music. Does such a tool exist? if not, what would it take to create one? I assume it would not be easy to do with the complexity of languages, subtleties of carnatic music, etc. However, from what I gathered already, the folks on this site are best suited for this! many thanks.
