Hi
I feel that Ragam kannada, a janyam of harikambhoji/harikedaragowla could find its place in the raga list. I think Shri matrubhutam and Geeti chakra are in this ragam
cheers sowmya

Hi sowmya,
I've been checking up on kannada - there is one version listed but it is a janya of shankarabharanam (29). I think there are several "versions" of this raga - depending on the artist (see jeevantikaa, jana sammodhini, kalaavati and others), which have different scales according to different musicologists. I'll look and see further if I find any references to those who have mentioned it as a janya of harikambhoji. Do you have any references for this?
thanks. rani

Kannada is a Bhashanga Raga. There appears to be differences among many sources as to its janaka raga. Kaa N and kai N both find usage in this raga.
References:
Sambamurthy SIM Vol3---29 dheera.......
In his Dictionary of south indian music, sambamurthy mentions the same thing. But does not mention its being bhashanga raga or Kai N being used sometimes.
Prof v.s. sampathkumaracharya and ramarathnam mention the same.(29-dsb). They do mention its being bhashanga raga and Kai N being used sometimes.
RRKeshava murthy in his Raga lakshana kosha mentions it as bhashanga raga in 28-hkbji, but mentions that kaa N is used some times.
My 2 pennies' contribution to this thread!
