Hi everyone, Someone wrote to ask me for the translation of the geetham vara veena. I found the following information from kutcheribuzz but would like a word-to-word meaning. Any ideas? The meaning posted: The geetham is in praise of the Goddess Devi. According to a book on Geethams, it addresses the one who has the great veena, has soft hands, has lotus-petal shaped eyes, queen of Paramatma, has a braid as beautiful as the bees, the one praised by the Devas, has a beautiful form, the one who shines with unparalleled good qualities, giver of victory, granter of wishes and the wife of Ranganathan, giver of strength and mother of Brahma. You can see the full lyrics at www.geocities.com/promiserani2/c1734.htmlthanks! rani

Hi I have seen the meanings posted by you guyz, and i have read somewhere also, my strong openion is there is something wrong in understanding this geetham
let us take..varaveena mrudu pani from this we can understand she can be saraswathi in that case saraseejasanajanani cannot be the mother of the person who sits on lotus that is brahma,...but if it is lakshmi varaveena doesn;t have proper meaning, here one more difference some people sing saraseejaSANA janani and some sing saraseejaSANU janani this is jut telugu grammer saraseejasanAjanani means the mother who is having saraseja(born from water - lotus) as aasanam and another one saraseejasanU janani.. means the mother of the person who is having saraseeja as aasanam i still doubt which one is correct, arguments are always welcomed
lovingly saahiti

Hi saahiti saw ur post. I dont know why u assumed the lysrics to be telugu. It is more likely to be kannada but that is beside the point as most of the words are samskrit. The song is about ranganAyaki, lakSmi. Mother Goddess , whichever form she is imagined to have. is considered as a patron of music. PArvati is escribed as holding vIa ad as a patron of music in countless krtis . How many pictures of pArvathi have u seen wielding the vINa. ( she does hold it as rAjamAtangi but that is beside the point).the gIta in mohana is attributed to srIpurandara dAsa and the meaning is as follows varavINamrdupANi- one who hold the gifted/venerated vINa in her delicate hands, vaaruhalOcanarANi-o lotuseyed queen[or o queen of the lotuseyed lOrd,viSNu] surucira bambaravENi- lady with beatuful & curly locks of hair & braid suranutakalyANi- auspicious[bestower of auspiciousness] one worshipped by the Gods/dEvas nirupamaSubhaguNalOlA- one endowed wit unmatched good qualities niratajayapradaSIlA- ever the giver of victory/success varadapriyaranganAyaki-the affectionate boon- bestowing ranganAyaki[alias lakSmi] vAnCitaphaladAyaki- who gives all desired fruits sarasijAsanajanani- mother of the lotus-seated brahma[alias lakSmi] jayajayajaya- victory to you
