Hi,
I've got the site full of film songs in Tamil but each of those film songs often has an equivalent (ie copy, or maybe the Tamil one is the copy) in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, or even English. It would be interesting to know the equivalent song titles and names for a song in another language. Is there a resources for this? Can anyone provide input?

A slight deviation from the actual topic. Has anyone heard the song "Ramakatha" from the Malayalam movie "Bharatham", sung by KJJ? It's been set to Subhapanthuvarali, I believe. I have a problem. My friend says that KJJ has sung as "Saa sa dhaa dha" instead of "Nee ni dhaa dha". Is he right? Or has all the swarams are in perfect place or is there some theory behind the swaram shift? Pls. explain, as I am a novice to music. Thanks in advance. Also copy your mail to prabhuram40@excite.com.

Hello!
Saw ur post.
Here's some info that may be of interest to you:
1.Raadhaiyin Nenjamae [Tamil-abheri] has a Hindi equivalent [probably the original] "Khil thae hey gul yahaa{n}..." from the film Sharmili [Shashi Kapoor starrer]
2.You may be perhaps surprised to know that some songs of Illayaraja are , well, what one might term as 'lifts'! To cite an example, Ilaya nilaa pozhigirathu [Tamil] has the original hindi version [Neel Neel ambhar par chand jab ayae...]
One reason for this unique form of national integration[!] could be that movies were re-made from the originals in other languages, perhaps, compelling the music-directors to compose/go for close parellel tunes ...[to suit the 'situations' as in the original movie]
Hope the above is of some use to you....
regards, prasad.

Hi, This is an interesting topic for me. I have been thinking about this for very long but really not very seriously. If I could remember there is a song in tamil - " Naan malarodu thaniyaaga yen ingu vanthen, en maharani unnai kaana Ododi vanthen" - it is a copy of the hindi song - " Tujhe pyaar karte hain, karte rahenge, ke dil banke dil mein dhadakte rahenge, ......."
2.Orayiram paarvayile, un paarvaiyai naan ariven (Tamil) - Sau baar janam lenge - ( Hindi)
3. There is one Balu Mahendra , Shobha & Pratap Bothan starrer film with Salil Chaudhry's music. All the songs are based on Bengali film songs of Salil Chaudhry music. I will find out soon. Regards, jani58.

this mesage is to mr.vrs prasad who said ilayaraja lifted the song ilayanila from neele neele ambar..... brother i think the reverse actually happened ... ilayanila was recorded first and neele neele was done later..... ilayaraja never lifts other tunes ..... I HAVE SEEN THIS IN A BLOG NAMED ...http://psomu.blogspot.com/2005/05/did-illayaraja-copy_18.html ...GOCKECK IT OUT MR.VRS PRASAD.... To me Illayaraja is a musical God. So, when someone said he had copied a song, I was deeply shocked. Not because he cannot copy, but because the song was my personal favorite ever. This really triggered an argument when we were discussing the song “Ilaya nila Pozhigirathu”. There also exists a Hindi version which is remarkably similar to this one. Apparently it is one of Kishore Kumar’s best (Neele Neele Ambar par from Kalaakaar) and the one’s speaking for it were not willing to budge. I had to prove those who were arguing with me wrong. So, I set out on doing some groundwork. I was so glad to find out that the Tamil version was released in 1982 while the Hindi version came in 83. And I also sat down and listened to both the songs completely. True that both the songs are great in their own respects, but one has to acknowledge the Hindi version was inspired by the Tamil. The use of guitar is strikingly similar and the entire first stanza sounds exactly the same as the Tamil version. Listen to the songs when you have the time. Both of them are amazing… I don't listen much to Hindi music. But then this sure is a good song. www.raaga.com/channels/hindi/movie/H000240.htmlI really have no words to describe this song. Am not sure if it was Vairamuthu or Vaali, but the lyric is just out of this world. I have used my very little poetic expertise to translate my favorite lines from this song. The roaming clouds roam around, Have they lost their address, And so, do they shower tears of rain, Calling for a redress ? And ofcourse needless to say, SPB is at his best as always. I always wonder how he manages to bring out such melody in his voice. www.raaga.com/channels/tamil/movie/T0000139.htmlNow with data backing me up, I can meet my opponents head on ))) After this I realized how much I love Illayaraja’s music… and that should explain why you can expect more about his music here in my blogs....... MORAL- ILAYARAJA IS GOD , HE CREATES THINGS AND OTHERS COPY .......

Hello Everyone, I need to know the raaga of a song. Below is the link of the video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHkZVGGkzjAI was trying to find out the raaga in this song. But I found quite a lot of mixtures. I'm wondering if this could be a raagamaalika? If so, what raagas are involved? Please let me know. Thank you very much! Regards, Sowmya
